A delivery status notification or DSN usually is a report from one or more servers on what they did with your message. For example, your sending mail server may report that it successfully forwarded (relayed) the message. Some servers send them and some do not.
The Notification Viewer add-on identifies and displays the status of pending and received notifications for messages sent with notification requests. You don't need to use it to get a return receipt, but it can be useful if you send a lot of messages where you request a return receipt.
Thunderbird Delivery Status Notification
In the last 3 days Delivery status notification was turned on for several messages; today 4 times. At least 2 of these had a message response, but only 1 notified the message a successful delivery. None reported a delivery failure.
A return receipt is an 'exchange' which can occur between two mail user agents based on the presence of a header in the mail. So, if both clients are so configured, the sending client can request of the receiving client an email acknowledging receipt of the mail from the sending client. It doesn't work if the sending client isn't configured to send the request for receipt and it also doesn't work if the receiving client isn't configured or chooses to not respond to a request for receipt.A delivery status notification, which is most commonly delivery status notification failed is a server generated message which is emailed optimally to the 'sender' of an email to notify the sender that such and such a mail could not be delivered by the server to the intended/addressed mailbox. The term 'bounce' is often used in this DSN-failed (NDR non-delivery report) but I don't like the bounce word because it is so often used ambiguously - so whenever there is an ambiguous word that needs to be explained better because it is so commonly misused, like kilobyte^1, then I prefer to use some other terms which are more specific.A soft bounce is different from a hard bounce. The rejection of a mail by a mailserver is not the same as the acceptance by the mailserver followed by an email to the From address. There are proposals to make the DSN system more extensive^2.^1 (kilobyte != kibibyte)^2 RFC1891 - SMTP Service Extension for Delivery Status Notificatioon-- Mike Easter

I understood you to say earlier in this thread that when you checked DSN and unchecked RR, that Tbird put a DNT header, the same as it did when you checked RR and unchecked DSN. The Parser class has no differences in its public interface. It does have some additional smarts to recognize message/delivery-status type messages, which it represents as a Message instance containing separate Message subparts for each header block in the delivery status notification
It's frustrating when you get an error after sending an email message. This topic describes what you can do if you see error code 5.6.11 in a non-delivery report (also known as an NDR, bounce message, delivery status notification, or DSN).
Notification Viewer is an add-on for Mozilla Thunderbird 2 and 3 which identifies and displays the status of pending and received notifications for messages sent with notification requests.
In Zoho Mail, you can view the email delivery status for the sent emails. The status will be available for each email sent for the most recent 60 days can be viewed from the sent folder. Navigate to the sent folder, where the sent emails are saved. Scroll to the particular email for which you want to check the status.
Once you send the email, the email is processed for delivery. If the process is in progress then you will notice the 'In Progress' icon displayed for the particular email. Click the icon to view the details for each individual recipient. You can click 'Refresh' to view the updated status for the recipients.
I don't see anything wrong here, the delivery status seems to be OK and it should send back the "delivery report" notification. The debug_peer_level has been increased from 2 to 3, but it didn't generated anything extra.
I'm disappointed that you didn't even want to read the RFC doc, even just the short section (10.1).Here's a quick proof to tell you how to ask MTA to generate a success delivery notification, and you can try it with iRedMail default settings.
If you have setup Automatic reply for your account, it may result in the delivery status notification failure message. Try to disable automatic reply for your account and see if that resolves the error. Here is how to do it.
Read receipts and delivery notifications are available in only some versions of Outlook for Mac, and only when using a Microsoft 365 work or school account, or an Exchange Server account managed by your organization.
The mechanism to request Delivery status notifications, also called DSN, wasfirst proposed in RFC 1891 and laterin RFC 3461. It works by adding anextension to SMTP which means it is not part of the email itself like in thecase of read receipts. Instead it is configured by the clientMTA (your SMTP client).

I noticed that sometimes there was an expansion of the delivery address and other times not. So, that would, I'd think, rule out the known quirk where Postfix sends status emails when asked to do expansion validation, "does this exist" checks.
If your application is unable to process the webhook request but you do not return a 406 error code, Mailgun will retry (other than for delivery notification) during 8 hours at the following intervals before stop trying: 10 minutes, 10 minutes, 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hour and 4 hours.

Configure Amazon SNS notifications to determine if there's an issue with the email recipient's server that's preventing your emails from delivery. In the Amazon SNS notifications, review the smtpResponse that Amazon SES returns. For more information on the details that are included in the Amazon SNS notifications, see Amazon SNS notification contents for Amazon SES.
In a nutshell, this message is a non-delivery report (NDR) or delivery status notification (DSN) of emails. The error 550 5.7.1 generally implies that the user is not authorized, and therefore, fails to send emails. As a result, the message is relayed back to the server.
The write or compose window has plenty of options. Options such as delivery status notification, return receipt, encrypt a message, set priority, and digitally sign messages are not available in many paid email clients.
Know instantly when recipients' mail servers have accepted delivery of your messages, or if message delivery was unsuccessful or deferred. Check delivery status of message through your account at our site, or opt to receive delivery status notifications by email. Upon successful delivery, status notices include a delivery transcript with a receipt acknowledgement from the recipient's mail server - similar to a transmission report after sending a fax.
Without getting too much into RFCs, a read receipt is not a delivery report. A delivery report is defined in RFC 1891. The mime content type of a delivery report is a multipart/report; report-type=delivery-status.
When using $sendmail for mail delivery, you need to use either Berkeley sendmail 8.8.x (or greater) a MTAsupporting DSN command line options compatible to Sendmail: The -N and-R options can be used by the mail client to make requests as to whattype of status messages should be returned. Please consider your MTAdocumentation whether DSN is supported. 2ff7e9595c
